Longer drying times deserve a closer look
Lint can accumulate beyond the dryer’s filter. A restricted exhaust path or crushed section can affect airflow; unusually long drying times are a reason to have the appliance and venting checked. They do not, by themselves, prove the cause.
Share whether the change was sudden, whether the dryer has moved, and what maintenance has been performed. Do not keep using an appliance that appears damaged or unsafe; follow the manufacturer’s safety instructions.

Look beyond the lint screen
A vent visit should distinguish buildup from physical damage. Ask about accessible connections, crushed or damaged venting, the exterior termination and any sections that cannot be reached safely. Cleaning cannot repair a disconnected or damaged vent.
Before work begins, clarify the access plan and scope. A roof or concealed run may require a different approach. If appliance service or vent replacement is needed, it should be explained separately.

A maintenance habit, not a one-time guarantee
USFA advises cleaning lint filters each time the dryer is used and cleaning dryer vent ductwork annually. Follow the appliance manufacturer’s instructions and discuss additional attention if use or conditions warrant it.
A cleaned vent still needs ongoing care. No service eliminates every fire risk. The historical statistic above supports taking maintenance seriously without predicting what will happen in your home.
